Big Jake, the tallest horse in the world dies at the age of 20 in Wisconsin

The world’s tallest 6-foot-10 horse, weighing 2,500 pounds has died.

The Wisconsin Big Jake icon lived on Smokey Hollow Farm in Poynette.

Valicia Gilbert, the wife of farm owner Jerry Gilbert, said Big Jake died two weeks ago but declined to give the exact date of death when the Associated Press arrived Monday via Facebook.

“We better not remember it until a date that has been a traumatic event for our family,” she said.

Jerry Gilbert told WMTV that Big Jake was a “super star” and a “truly magnificent animal.”

The Guinness Book of World Records certified the 20-year-old Belgian named Big Jake as the world’s longest living horse in 2010

Its owner told the television station that Big Jake was born in Nebraska and weighed 240 pounds in the east, about 100 pounds heavier in the east than a typical Belgian dirt.

He said he plans to commemorate Big Jake by holding his booth blank and inserting a brick into the outside of it with his photo and name.

“It’s very quiet (on the farm),” Jerry Gilbert said. “The other horses know. I think they have their time of grief because Jake was in the spotlight here. There’s a big gap. It feels like he’s still here, but he doesn’t.”
