No tsunami expected after a 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Cau on the Big Island at 11:48 a.m. Sunday.

The US Geological Survey reported that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 35 km (21.7 mi), and was located near the following cities:

28 km SSE of Naalehu 64.1 km SSE of Kailua-Kona64.2 km SW of Hawaiian Paradise Park 68.6 km SSW of Hilo228.0 km SE of Honolulu

A 4.3-magnitude aftershock occurred at 11:53 a.m., about 3 miles north of a 6.2-magnitude earthquake at a depth of 22 miles. Two smaller tremors follow after these earthquakes and further aftershocks can occur and be felt.

Strong shaking, with maximum intensity of VI, has been reported across the island of Hawaii, and throughout the Hawaiian Islands. At this intensity, very minor damage to buildings or structures may occur.
