Mild tremors were reported in Telangana as neighboring Maharashtra experienced an earthquake

People have come out of their homes in parts of Adelabad, Manchirial, Bidapali, Jagtyal, Bhopalpali and Asifabad districts but no untoward incident has been reported.

An earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale was recorded in some parts of Telangana and the epicenter of Siruncha Taluka was in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra state on Sunday, October 31, according to official information. A statement issued by the Gadchiroli district community quoting the National Seismology Center said the quake occurred at a depth of 77 km. It was recorded in the village of Gvrabad Chak near the Pranhita River near the Telangana border.

In Telangana, parts of Adelabad and Belambale in Manchirial, Bidapally, Jagtyal, Bhopalpali and Asifabad districts experienced mild tremors with earthquake impact. Residents of the houses with children and old people came out in fear and the earthquake lasted less than ten seconds. Videos of people panicking from the earthquake were also circulated on social media and residents took to Twitter to share their experience.

However, officials at the epicenter confirmed that there was no property damage or loss of life reported due to the quake, a Gadchiroli district official told PTI. The earthquake measured 4.3 on the Richter scale. It was recorded at 6.48 p.m., according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS). Officials say such earthquakes are not uncommon. “Gadchiroli is in the third seismic zone and an earthquake of such magnitude is not unusual or unexpected,” former NCS chief AK Shukla told IANS.

He added, “The earthquake site is located near the Godavari Valley fault system. The third region could be subjected to a quake of 5 degrees on the Richter scale.” Initial reports said the quake was felt in Siruncha district of Gvrabad Chak near the Maharashtra-Telangana border along the Pranhita river. Other places I felt slight tremors were Ahiri and Ashti in Gadchiroli. Earlier on October 23, Karimnagar in Telangana also reported a 4.0 magnitude earthquake. No loss of life or property was reported in that accident.
