Visakhapatnam: Terrified residents ran out of their homes after light tremors shook parts of the city of Vizag on Sunday morning. People felt tremors around 7.14am on Sunday morning. The tremors lasted a few seconds in Akyayapalim, Madhuranagar, Beach Road, Thatchitlapalim, Alipuram, Aslamita, Seethamidara, Gurudwara, Muralingar, Madurawada, Kumadi, Chimhacha Lam, Gopalpatnam and a few other areas of the city. D Sudhakar, a resident of MVP Colony in Vizag, said residents in their area came out of the buildings and wondered what was going on. “They were in shock for a few minutes because they had never witnessed such an incident before. My friends said they were in shock and felt their buildings shaking for a few seconds. They also felt the walls were shaking. However, there was no damage to the property.” The National Center for Seismology said it was an earthquake with a magnitude of 1.8. The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation tweeted asking Vizagites to take precautionary steps after the tremors were reported at 7:13 am.
