Earthquake hit West Midlands with earthquakes in Walsall, Birmingham, Dudley and Wolverhampton

A 2.8-magnitude earthquake struck the West Midlands late Monday night. The British Geological Survey (BGS) said the quake hit Walsall.

It struck at a depth of seven kilometers (4.35 miles) at 10.59 pm. The black country felt the worst of the earthquake, but the tremors were experienced farther afield as well.

The effects were felt 20 kilometers from the epicenter, where residents of Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Dudley also detected the tremors. Affected residents told BGS that the quake shook their homes, while one said it “was like a wardrobe that fell or an explosion in the window”.
