Louisville Zoo temporarily closes bird exhibits to prevent bird flu

As a precautionary measure, the Louisville Zoo has closed some of its exhibits to prevent the spread of bird flu.

The public walk-through aviary was closed and some of the zoo’s birds were “with great care” moved to the protected area, the zoo said in a news release.

He quoted a recently identified case of bird flu in wild birds in western Jefferson County, the announcement said. With the exception of Kentucky, the disease has been found in 12 other states.

Guests are not at risk, according to the zoo, as zoo birds currently show no clinical signs of illness and no human infection with the virus has been found in the United States.
