Small earthquake natural earthquake in Delhi Jagran special

Dehradun, Suman Simwal. Small earthquakes occur in the Delhi-NCR region, but registering 10 earthquakes (up to 4.6 degrees) within two months is not common. This is why the Wadia Institute for Himalayan Geology has decided to study errors in Delhi from which seismic energy is released. For this reason, the institute director, Dr. Kalchand Sai, formed a study team. It will be sent to Delhi soon.

Dr. Sushil Kumar, chief scientist at the Wadia Institute, says that small earthquakes in Delhi are linked to local rift. There is no danger from the historical fault line in the Himalayas such as the front direction in the Himalayas, the main frontier push, and the main central thrust, where there are small earthquakes dependent on the local rift. However, it is not unusual for more earthquakes to be recorded in shorter periods. Dr. Sushil Kumar said that the earthquakes in Delhi come in eastern Yamuna. It is related to the big fault of the frontier, Delhi-Heridwar, Suhana Volt, Mahindrajara-Dehradun Volt etc. They release energy in the form of small earthquakes.

Speaking of history, the highest earthquake with a magnitude of 6.7 occurred in 1956 until now in Delhi. Aside from this, earthquakes below the Richter scale continue to hit the Delhi region. The error here does not have the potential to cause a very intense earthquake, so it can be assumed that the energy stored in geology continues to appear as a small earthquake. However, a detailed study will be conducted upon the instructions of the director of the institute to confirm this. Under this, the status of the various faults will be evaluated. This work may take two to three months.

High intensity earthquake in Delhi

The year 1720, 6.5 degrees

1956, 6.7 degrees

1960, 06 volume

1966, 5.8 degrees

Today’s earthquake with a magnitude of 6.7 is dangerous

Dr. said Calchand Sai, director of the Wadia Institute, said that if there was a quake with a magnitude of 6.7 such as 1956, then the situation could be dangerous, because the buildings here must first be guaranteed according to this capacity or not. The maximum magnitude earthquake at this time was 4.6 degrees. If this volume increases to 5.6, the energy is released 32 times compared to 4.6. Likewise, if the volume is increased, the energy emitted will be about a thousand times compared to 5.6.

After Uttarakhand, the land of Delhi is the largest.

Dr. Sushil Kumar, chief science officer at the Wadia Institute, said a study conducted between 2007 and 2017 found that Delhi had the most earthquakes after Uttarakhand. However, this earthquake is not as strong as Uttarakhand. In this study, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Himachal and Jammu Kashmir were divided into blocks A, B, C and D (four regions in each block).

Jammu, Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh (Northeast) in A, Shimla district in Himachal Pradesh in B, Jarhwal and most of the Kumun Department in Uttarakhand in District C and Delhi (NCR) were kept in Dr. It was learned that the maximum earthquake of 28.8 times in the whole region came in Garhwal and Kumaon in category C. This was followed by 26.7 tremors in the D-Delhi-NCR region.

Earthquakes recorded by region (between 2007 and 2017)

C, d, a, b

C1, 36, D1, 08, A1, 33, B1,17

C2, 19, d2, 11, a2, 14, b07

C3, 22, D3, 20, A3, 40, B3, 26

C4, 05, D4, 37, A4, 06, B4,04

Total 82, 76, 73, 57

A severe earthquake is not in Delhi

High intensity earthquakes (4.2 to 5.8 degrees) were recorded 12 times in Class C, 06 times in A and 04 times in Class B.

The Wadia Institute conducted the study by collecting data from the International Seismological Center (ISC), Indian Meteorology Department (IMD), as well as 54 broadband seismic stations. A number of trauma has not yet been recorded in earthquake studies.
