2. Hospitals need to be creative to increase capacity

Former Ebola tsar Ron Klain testified before the US Congress on Tuesday during a hearing on coronavirus preparation. Klain explained that many American hospitals are not prepared for the influx of cases that they will likely see, due to a lack of tests and a shortage of workers. He said hospitals might need to partner with government agencies to temporarily increase their capacity or borrow the type of creative thinking that has led to solutions such as driving tests in countries like Belgium, Korea and Germany.

  • He incubates longer (2-14 days, more than 3 times longer than the flu)
  • It is also more contagious. Each person with coronavirus is likely to spread it to two other people, compared to a rate of about half for influenza.
