State health officials say COVID-19 infections are on the rise
Sacramento, California (KTXL) —California health officials said the state is beginning to see an increase in COVID-19 infections.
Due to problems with the processing of test data in the state, it is unknown how much it will increase.
On Wednesday, California Public Health Service leaders confirmed that the BA.2 subvariant (also known as stealth omicron) is currently the predominant strain in California.
Although COVID-19 hospitalization rates are close to the lowest ever, COVID-19 infections are increasing in some parts of the state. This emphasizes the need to be vigilant and protect ourselves and our communities by being vaccinated and encouraged by Californians.

However, the details of the increase in transmissions across the state are not clear.
Earlier this week, the department was to update COVID-19 test data, including state-wide positive rates. Officials said Wednesday that a data processing issue postponed the public report, so the numbers are now expected to be released Thursday.
Department personnel did not provide details regarding data processing issues. This is more than a week after the department decided to move the daily reporting of COVID-19 data to two days a week.
“Frankly, it’s a concern for me that the CDC and many states, including us, are reducing data reporting,” said Senator Richard Pan of D-Sacramento.
Pan, who is also the chairman of the Senate Health Committee, said good data is the key to slowing the spread of the virus.
“It’s a little harder to know what’s going on, especially when the waves are starting. What we want is better for the public health department to get the data less often. While saying they want to get the data, people in those departments aren’t sitting on the data because of these trends, “Pan said.
FOX 40 asked CDPH if the same could be done in California, as cases began to increase in east coast states and mask obligations were reinstated in some cities like Philadelphia.
A spokesman there said public health officials would continue to evaluate science and data to determine how to respond to a pandemic, and they would continue to strongly recommend indoor masking.
Senator Pan said Californians should take precautions, such as vaccines and boosters, to keep everyone safe.
“I also want to get rid of COVID, but it won’t go away because we want it. We need to work on it,” Pan said.
