Wayne, Holmes Report Case of COVID-19
In Ohio, there was a surge of new coronavirus cases during the week ending Sunday, with 8,731 reported cases, an increase of 26.7%. Last week there were 6,890 new cases of the virus that causes COVID-19.
Ohio ranks 27th among the fastest-spreading states of the coronavirus per capita, according to USA TODAY network analysis of Johns Hopkins University data. Last week, cases of coronavirus in the United States increased by 8.9% from the previous week, and 381,004 cases were reported.
With 3.51% of the country’s population, Ohio had 2.29% of the country’s case last week. Nationally, 41 states had more cases in the most recent week than in the previous week.

Ohio ranks 43rd in the state in terms of the percentage of people who have received at least one shot, with 63.5% of the population being vaccinated at least partially. The national percentage is 77.6%, as shown by USA TODAY analysis of CDC data. The most used Pfizer and Moderna vaccines in the United States should be given twice at intervals of several weeks.
In the week ending Sunday, Ohio reported 84,495 vaccinations, including 7,332 initial doses. Last week, the state received 93,961 vaccinations, including 7,739 initial doses. Overall, Ohio reported a total of 17,847,588 doses.
Throughout Ohio, cases decreased in 15 counties, the most in Lucas County, from 694 cases a week ago to 438 cases. In Huron County, 15 out of 26 cases. And in Hocking County, 15 out of 25.
In Ohio, 68 people were reported dead from COVID-19 during the week ending Sunday. The week before that, Zero people were reported dead.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 2,697,058 people have tested positive for the coronavirus and 38,428 have died of the disease, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. In the United States, 81,365,218 are positive and 993,733 are dead.
