Henderson County health officials are reporting 30 new cases of coronavirus in two days, with 29 of them in the general public.
The county has identified 433 cases of COVID-19 and 49 deaths as of Friday, an increase of 30 cases and no deaths from Wednesday’s report.
Since May 27, 98 of the 120 new cases have been found in the general public and not in the long-term care facilities that accounted for the vast majority of the county’s cases through mid-May.
Of the total 433 cases, 241 are tied to long-term care facilities. All but two deaths are also tied to such facilities.
The majority of cases – 257 – have been identified in Hendersonville’s 28792 zip code. Twenty of the 30 new cases are in this zip code.
A total of 5,811 tests have been administered in the county as of Friday’s update.
The health department lists 241 patients as recovered, up from 233 Wednesday.
North Carolina has surpassed 1,000 deaths from coronavirus, with state officials reporting 1,092 as of Saturday morning, up from 1,064 Thursday.
The state also had 42,676 cases as of Saturday, up from 39,481 Thursday, the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services said.
As of Saturday, 611,690 tests have been completed in the state and 760 people are currently hospitalized due to the virus, with 84% of hospitals in the state reporting.
Buncombe County had 438 cases and 34 deaths as of Saturday, Polk County had 55 cases and four deaths, and Transylvania County had 16 cases and one death.
Although only 15% of cases have been reported in patients 65 and older, 82% of reported deaths have occurred in this age range as of Saturday.
In Henderson County, 50% of cases and 98% of deaths are in patients ages 60 and older as of Friday.

Nationwide, the CDC reported 2,016,027 cases, an increase of 21,744 in 24 hours, and 113,914 deaths, an increase of 947 in 24 hours.
