24-hour trip, Jokowi and Iriana arrive in Washington DC

President Joko Widodo or Jokowi left for Washington DC, United States (US), Tuesday (10/5/2022) morning WIB. Unlike his usual presidential-1 plane working visit, Jokowi this time chartered a Boeing 777-300ER from Garuda Indonesia for a visit to the United States.
Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Heru Budi Hartono, explained a number of reasons why Jokowi chose not to use the Presidential-1 aircraft during his visit to Uncle Sam’s country. One of them is that it takes two transits if Jokowi uses a presidential plane for America.
“It’s a very long trip if you use the presidential plane, you can make two transits,” Heru told reporters on Tuesday.
Moreover, he said, the Garuda Indonesia planes are much larger and can carry more people than the Presidential-1 plane. The reason, there are 62 people who participated in the visit to the United States. “The presidential plane can only carry 48 people. The team has 62 people,” he said.
According to him, the trip to America is so far that it takes two transits when using a presidential plane. If you use a Garuda plane, the trip will be more efficient. “Two transits means that at every point there is a forward team. Now it’s only once,” he explained.
“All participating ministers can take a PP (round trip) plane, and the advance team will return with the plane. So it’s more efficient,” Heru continued.
Previously, Jokowi and First Lady Iriana departed for Washington DC, United States (US), on Tuesday (10/5/2022). Jokowi will carry out a series of working visit diaries from May 11 to 13, 2022.
“This morning, the delegation and I will leave for a working visit to Washington DC from May 11 to 13, 2022,” Jokowi said in his statement at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, before taking off on Tuesday.
He is due to take part in a series of two-day ASEAN-US Special Summit (AUSS) meetings with leaders from other Southeast Asian countries. In total, there are four rounds of meetings in which Jokowi will participate.
First, a meeting with members of Congress. Second, a meeting with the great American CEOs. Third, a meeting with Vice President Harris and the US Climate Change Team. Fourth, the ASEAN Leaders and President Joe Biden Summit.
Jokowi and the delegation are due to return to Jakarta as soon as the series of meetings ends on the evening of May 13. It should arrive in the country on Sunday, May 15, 2022 in the morning.
