Brisbane earthquake: Earthquakes hit Somerset, Queensland on Tuesday afternoon, Geoscience Australia confirms

Authorities confirmed that an earthquake occurred near Brisbane.

Geoscience Australia says the epicenter was in Brendale, in the Moreton Bay area, north of Brisbane.

It was 1.25pm ​​on Tuesday.

The authority had initially reported its center as Kilkoy in the Somerset District, west of the Glasshouse Mountains between Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.

The object said it registered a magnitude of 2.9 on the Richter scale – previously reported as 3.0 – and is believed to have originated from a depth of 10 km.

Social media users reported that they felt tremors in north Brisbane, describing the sensation as being like a train traveling under it.

“It felt like a huge subway train was approaching and passing under us,” one person said on Facebook.

Another person said the “earth shook” in Daiboro, near Brendale.

More than 400 people have reported feeling earthquakes in Geoscience Australia.

The bulk of the reporting was done in the Draper and Samford areas.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services said there were no reports of damage or requests for assistance so far.
