Monkeypox spreading in Latin America

Colombian health officials have identified the first three cases of adult monkeypox that traveled from Europe on Friday.
Two cases were found in the capital of Bogotá, the third was reported in Medellín.
Monkeypox has been reported in six countries in Latin America, and the World Health Organization (WHO) states that more than 3,200 cases of the disease are in 48 countries.
Argentina was the first Latin American country to confirm the disease, followed by Mexico, Brazil, Venezuela and Chile.
The Argentine Ministry of Health reported on May 27 that two people, Argentina and Spain, were tested positive after showing suspicious symptoms.
One day, Mexico reported the first “imported” case of a 50-year-old man living in New York City “probably infected in the Netherlands,” health officials said.
On June 9, Brazil traveled to Spain and Portugal and confirmed the first case of a 41-year-old man admitted to a hospital in São Paulo.
Venezuela reported the first case of a patient also from Spain on June 13.
Chile confirmed monkeypox on June 17. Health officials said it was detected in young adults who traveled to Europe and showed symptoms related to the disease.
The World Health Organization is considering whether to declare monkeypox a global emergency. This makes the same distinction as a coronavirus pandemic and requires a global response.
Monkeypox has traditionally affected men who have sex with men primarily, but experts say that people and clothing that are in close contact with the infected may be at risk of infection. Is warned.
