A pair of earthquakes shook the Kenai Peninsula on Monday night

The Kenai Peninsula fell asleep last night due to two minor earthquakes.

The first earthquake of magnitude 4.3 struck just before 7 p.m. in the Primrose region near Moss Pass. The second, 4.7, was just before 11:30 p.m. near Tyonek, across from Cook Inlet.

Both sparked a flurry of activity on social media. Alaskans from Homer to Matt-Sue reported the light shook on the USGS’ “Did you feel it?” Site.

But Michael West of the Alaska Earthquake Center said such earthquakes happen every week in Alaska — they only happen in more isolated areas.

“These are various earthquakes in the parks,” he said. “None of those shocked the geologists last night.”

He said they came from the subduction zone in southern Alaska, where the Pacific tectonic plate slides beneath its neighbor.

This area is driving much of the earthquake activity in the area. But those quakes usually happen on the other side of the entrance, where fewer people will feel them, and West said that although the quakes were close in time, they were likely not connected in any other way.

“The answer may not be very satisfactory, but we really consider this a coincidence,” he said.

He said that large earthquakes can sometimes trigger other earthquakes nearby, but these were too small to do so.

Alaskans may remember the 7.1 magnitude earthquake that struck the South Central region in 2018.

West said several earthquakes in the area since then are linked to this quake.

“I would say that a disproportionate number of earthquakes that people have felt, for example, this year, can still be traced back to aftershocks of that event,” West said. “And those two last night were not.”

He said they were, for lack of a better term, good old-fashioned earthquakes.

Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price.
