The survivor of COVID-19 emotionally reunited with the medical staff who kept him alive for a few weeks on the ventilator because he had a hard time overcoming the virus. Reported by KSHB’s Ariel Rothfield.
(KSHB / NBC Newschannel) – Shakell Avery spent weeks on the ventilator at the Menora Medical Center in Overland Park, Kansas, fighting against the new coronavirus. His family didn’t even know if he made it, and neither his doctor nor his nurse.
Avery returned to the hospital on Tuesday, walked and talked and thanked the people who helped him.
“You all brought me back to my family,” he said. “I also see you as a family.”
Saras Tremer was one of the nurses who cared for Avery.
“Hearing him is one thing, seeing him stand and walk is more than we thought we had never seen,” Stremel Said.
