More than 500 thousand were affected by the Abra earthquake; Infrastructure damage in P1.5B

MANILA, Philippines – As of August 7, Sunday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that a total of 502,462 individuals were affected by the 7.0 earthquake that struck the city of Abra.

According to the latest situation report by NDRRMC, this total has translated to 136,612 households.

The report also showed that the estimated cost of damage to various infrastructures in these areas rose to 1,593,861,827.11 pesos.

Meanwhile, the number of verified deaths due to the earthquake remained at 11, while the number of recorded injuries rose to 574.

Of the total affected, NDRRMC said 368 families or 1,310 individuals remain within 20 evacuation centers, while 14,401 families or 52,028 individuals are not in evacuation centers (which NDRRMC said means they are staying elsewhere).

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology earlier warned that aftershocks could occur for several days and even months.
