Two earthquakes hit Jammu and Kashmir in one hour; Total 6 earthquakes in the last 2 days

Two earthquakes measuring 3.2 and 4.1 on the Richter scale hit Katra in Jammu and Kashmir within an hour on Wednesday evening.

At 11:04 p.m. people felt the earthquakes. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), a 4.1-magnitude earthquake struck Katra, Jammu and Kashmir. The earthquake struck at 33.20 degrees north latitude and 75.56 degrees east longitude, at a depth of 5 km.

“An earthquake of magnitude 4.1 on the Richter scale occurred east of Katra, Jammu and Kashmir, 62 km away at approximately 11:04 pm today. The depth of the earthquake was 5 km underground,” NCS wrote on Twitter.

The second earthquake occurred at 11:52 pm on Wednesday. The depth of the earthquake was 5 kilometers underground.

“Earthquake Magnitude: 3.2, Occurred 08-24-2022, 23:52:45 India Time, Latitude: 33.05 & Long: 75.58, Depth: 5 km, Location: 60 km east of Katra, Jammu and Kashmir,” the NCS tweeted.

Earlier, on August 23 (Tuesday), four earthquakes rocked Katra in less than six hours. The first earthquake struck east of Katra, Jammu and Kashmir at 2:20 am on Tuesday. The depth of the earthquake was 10 kilometers underground. The first earthquake measured 3.9 on the Richter scale.

They added that the second earthquake of magnitude 2.6 occurred 9.5 km northeast of Doda in Jammu District at 3:21 am. The earthquake struck at 33.23 degrees north latitude and 75.56 degrees east longitude, at a depth of 5 km.

They added that the third quake with a magnitude of 2.8 occurred 29 km east of Udhampur in Jammu District at 3.44 am on Tuesday. The earthquake occurred at 32.89 degrees north latitude and 75.45 degrees east longitude, at a depth of 10 km.

The fourth earthquake of magnitude 2.9 occurred 26 km southeast of Udhampur at 8.03 am.

Additionally, tremors were also felt in Kolhapur, Maharashtra today. The NCS said the 3.4-magnitude earthquake occurred at 12:05 am in Kolhapur.

She added that the depth of the earthquake was at a depth of 5 km below the surface of the earth.
