There were racial differences. More than 60% of blacks with monkeypox were HIV-infected, compared with 41% of Hispanics, 28% of whites, and 22% of Asians.
Jason Farley, an infectious disease specialist at Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, said men of color who have sex with men should be at the forefront of monkeypox vaccination. Within ethnic groups, the next priority should be those with HIV or recently diagnosed with an STD, he said.
The study has some limitations, such as the data may not be nationally representative, the authors say.
