Complainant withdraws complaint against actor Sreenath Bhasi
Kochi: The case against actor Sreenath Bhasi, in which he allegedly insulted a presenter during an interview, was dropped by the plaintiff on Friday.
Bhasi was arrested by Maradu police on September 26.
The plaintiff signed a petition requesting the withdrawal of the case against the actor. The anchor released her reason for taking over the case through a detailed social media post.
“A lot of people have asked me if the problem is exaggerated. Certainly not. I think this incident has been widely discussed because I decided to pursue the matter. Yes, the whole episode could have been end with a “sorry”. And I was ready to forgive too. But not only was I denied an apology, but the actor’s reaction also perpetuated the idea that “abuse is normal”. That’s when I decided to face the issue legally,” the complainant said. in his post.
She added that the actor apologized after realizing his mistake and expressed his gratitude to his colleagues, his family, the media and the police who guided him in the right direction and gave him their unconditional support.
The complainant, in an interview with a TV channel on the day of Bhasi’s arrest, revealed that she decided to pursue the case after giving the actor ample time to apologise. According to the anchor, the team of the film being promoted initially asked her not to press charges and promised to make the artist apologize. However, that was not to be the case.
The Kerala Film Producers Association had decided not to cooperate with actor Sreenath Bhasi on new projects.
According to the association, the actor will only be allowed to finish filming the films he has signed to date.
The Incident
During the promotional interview for Bhasi’s latest release, “Chattambi,” the online entertainment portal anchor asked the actor to rate his co-actors based on their heckling.
Although Bhasi initially tried to deflect these questions, the interviewer’s alleged insistence did not sit well with the actor, who could be seen asking on camera if he could leave.
Shortly after, Bhasi was seen telling the anchor to refrain from asking him any more “dumb” questions. He then asked the crew to stop filming.
According to the entertainment team’s version of the incident, Bhasi verbally assaulted the team after the camera was turned off.
In a video posted to the channel, the team alleged that Bhasi used swear words that were deeply insulting to women. Bhasi was interviewed by two presenters.
“Because we’re an online channel, we’re moving away from the usual hard news and instead focusing on fun matters to spread the word about the movie. In fact, when movie promotion teams approach us, they prefer those kinds of funny questions, so our videos are more lively than other promo videos,” a staff member of the YouTube channel said.
