Ashland hockey event identified as a potential exposure location COVID-19
ASHLAND, WIS. (WLUC) – People who attended a hockey skills camp in northern Wisconsin late last month may have been exposed to COVID-19.
According to the Bayfield County Health Department, a case of COVID-19 identified in Bayfield County on Monday was linked to a hockey event in Ashland on June 27-28.
The health department says the patient became ill on July 1. They are believed to have been exposed to COVID-19 during the hockey skills camp. The Bayfield County health department encourages anyone who attended this hockey event to get tested for COVID-19.
Sara Wartman, the director and health officer of the Bayfield County Health Department, told TV6 & FOX UP: We have confirmed cases related to this site from Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan. There are currently 13 people associated with this event and others with pending results.
Wartman says the investigation into COVID-19 cases related to the hockey skills camp is ongoing.
According to public health guidelines, you should watch for symptoms yourself 14 days after exposure. You can still develop symptoms during those 14 days, even after negative testing. Call your provider if you develop symptoms.
Public health efforts aim to identify the close contacts of the patients and to reduce the impact of this virus. Anyone identified as potentially at risk will be contacted by the health department.
