A 5.0-magnitude earthquake hits the Nicobar Islands today

Today’s Nicobar Islands earthquake news: A 5.0-magnitude earthquake occurred in the Nicobar Islands region at around 5.07 am on Monday, the National Seismological Center said, ANI reports.

Three consecutive earthquakes have hit Uttarkashi

A district disaster management official said a 2.5-magnitude earthquake followed by two consecutive tremors shook Uttarkashi in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Devendra Patwal, the district disaster management officer, said the epicenter of the first quake, which occurred at 12.45 am, was in Sirur forest in Patwari district of the district.

He added that the other two tremors followed soon, but they were very light and could not be recorded locally.

Patwal said the earthquake woke many residents as kitchen utensils started falling to the ground and window and door panes started shaking, forcing them to run out of their homes in a panic.

He said they spent almost the entire night outside their homes in fear.

But Patwal said that no damage to life or property has been reported from anywhere in the region.
