Bedale Cricket Club gets new equipment thanks to donation

Bedale Cricket Club is one of the newest organizations to take advantage of the Broadacres community development fund.

They received 500 to buy a bowling machine for use by the club’s junior and women’s departments.

The bowling machine, which also contains balls and a battery, so that it can be used without mains voltage, is intended for battle and field exercises.

Bedale Cricket Club secretary and junior coach Paul Croft said: Fortunately, we were able to use the bowling machine before the Covid-10 lockdown resulted in the discontinuation of recreational cricket and was well received by juniors and female players.

It fires tennis balls that are perfect for practicing batting technique and catching and is a great addition to the coaching equipment we have at the club.

With the restrictions lifted, Paul hopes the bowling machine will be back in good use for the rest of the summer.

He added: We were able to play cricket again this month, but the bowling machine will prove invaluable for many years to come.

We have a thriving and growing section for youth and women and we estimate that over 100 players will benefit from the machine.

Without this scholarship, we would never have been able to afford the machine, so we are very grateful for Broadacres’ support.

Rosemary Colebrook is one of the Broadacres residents who are part of the community development fund panel that sets the award.

She said it is clear that the club-bought bowling machine will have a significant positive effect on junior and women’s cricket in Bedale.

It is typical of the type of projects that the Community Development Fund can support, and we were very pleased to have received this award.
