The representative of the Republican People’s Party in Diyarbakir, Sezgin Tanrikulu, revealed that the loans of the earthquake-stricken areas in some provinces including Diyarbakir were canceled.

Tanrikulu wrote in the news on his account on social networking sites: “Loans for the earthquake-affected areas were canceled in a few provinces, including Diyarbakir. What is the purpose of canceling these loans immediately after the elections? Is it related to the elections?”

“Loans to the earthquake-stricken areas should cover all 11 provinces in the disaster area. Discrimination must be corrected at once. I am addressing the government. Do not beat the small shopkeepers in Diyarbakir like this.”

Election related?

Tanrukulu explained that the Union of Shop Owners’ Guarantee Cooperatives announced the granting of a loan of 250,000 pounds in the earthquake-affected areas, in addition to the 500,000 pounds previously allocated. This fund was for one year non-refundable. It covered 11 provinces.

“But yesterday, until the first of June, this loan was canceled in a number of provinces, including Diyarbakir.

“Now we have to ask? What is the purpose of canceling this loan immediately after the elections? Is it related to the elections? Diyarbakir is one of the provinces that were hit by the earthquake; but to a minor degree, it suffered casualties, as in other provinces,” Tanrikulu wrote.

Earthquakes February 6th

On February 6, two earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 hit the southern city of Marash. The first earthquake in Pazardzhik district at 4.17 am was followed by the second earthquake in Albistan about nine hours later.

The earthquakes affected 11 cities in southern and southeastern Turkey, as well as northern parts of Syria, killing more than 5,000 people.

More than 50,000 people were killed in Türkiye as a result of the earthquakes.

Nearly two million people have been displaced by the earthquakes.
