The people of Rajkot shook their family on Thursday morning when an earthquake of magnitude 4.8 shook the city.

At 7:30 am, residents in parts of Surashtra felt tremors and ran out of their homes.

The epicenter of the earthquake, measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale, was 18 km south-southeast of Rajkot in Gondal Taluca in the province.

Officials from the Gandhinagar Seismological Research Institute (ISR) reported that the epicenter of the earthquake was at latitude 22.157 and longitude 70.888, which Mirror found is a triple intersection of the villages of Piplana, Bhayasar and Padasan in Rajkot district.

Tremors were felt strongly in Rajkot, Surendangar and Omerli areas. Jayaben Zanzuwadia, housewife was bathing when suddenly everything started to shake. She was scared when her family shouted from outside.

No property damage has been reported so far due to the earthquake.

Given the gravity of the situation, the Prime Minister of Gujarat Vijay Rupani has invited the universities of Rajkot, Omerli and Saurandangar provinces to assess the situation. Rubani ordered them to reach any damage in the smallest village in the district and take immediate action.
