Paris (AFP) French actor Gérard Depardieu, who is facing a series of sexual assault allegations, will sell a large part of his art collection estimated to be worth between 3 and 5 million euros, his officials announced on Thursday. auctioneers.

The sale of the actor’s 250 works of art is scheduled for September 26 and 27 at the Hôtel Drouot in Paris.

Depardieu, arguably the best-known French actor in the world, has played some of the country’s most iconic roles, including Cyrano de Bergerac, Obélix and Auguste Rodin.

He has long been an avid collector of art, primarily abstract contemporary art and statues.

The auctioneers said they had never met someone who lived with their art like Depardieu.

“His house’s collection is unique because there are no paintings hanging on the wall,” Nordmann said. “He stacks them against the wall and moves them back and forth in the pile according to his mood.

“I’ve never seen that. He can’t stand being face to face with them.”

A striking statue of Germaine Richier – whose “ogre-ish” stance resembles the actor, Nordmann noted – is the centerpiece of the auction, valued at between 500,000 and 800,000 euros.

It also includes a statue of Rodin and works by artists such as Odilon Redon and Hans Hartung.

Auctioneers have admitted they would like to get their hands on other items from the actor’s collections.

“We fantasize a bit about Gérard Depardieu’s wine cellar, you can’t even imagine,” said co-auctioneer Xavier Dominique.

French investigative site Mediapart reported in April that more than a dozen women had accused Depardieu of sexual violence, with some allegations dating back decades.
