Kumartuli artisans for 50% progress for Durga idols – kolkata

The return of the blockade to various parts of West Bengal has forced artisans from Kumartuli, the city’s famous clay modeling center, to demand 50 per cent advance payment when booking idols.

“But we are insisting on paying 50 per cent of the price of the idol before you sign the order. This is important because we have suffered huge losses as all the completed idols Annapurna and Basanti for their respective pujas that took place in late March could not be sold as the pandemic had decided.

“Since we have made large investments, we cannot take a chance,” she said.

In a question, Paul said bookings this time were much less than in previous years. There would have been bookings for at least 30 Durga idols after Rath Yatra around this time in years past, but she has no complaints.
