Cong provides food supplies to Central Prison, officials oppose move | Goa News
Panaji: The Congress Party on Saturday tried to donate food supplies to the Center jail in Colvale only for the prison authorities to oppose the offer. Congress office holders Sankalp Amonkar, Amarnath Panjikar, Janardhan Bhandari along with other party employees donated food items after the correctional facility ran out of supplies on Friday.
The Congressional delegation said prison authorities refused to accept food supplies because it would embarrass the government. Bhandari said the inmates are suffering as the government failed to provide food for the prison. We were getting vegetables and food items for the prisoners, but for that the authorities have to ask permission from the RSS, BJP and others, said Congress Secretary General Amarnath Panjikar.
On Friday the prison inmates refused to return to their cells as they were allegedly not served food for the whole day. The arrogant Goa government refuses to accept essential goods supplied by Colvale prison authorities from Congress after prisoners were kept hungry due to the unavailability of essential items because the priority of allocating funds to the Goa chief minister is for bhavan casino and not food for inmates, said state Congress president Girish Chodankar.
Chodankar said Congress workers had gone there only on humanitarian grounds and considering the state government’s financial bankruptcy. We strongly condemn the arrogance of the Goa chief minister and the government, Chodankar said.
Panjikar said while the government is ashamed to accept food items, it has no qualifications to steal 10 UK Congresses.
