An agreement has been reached to deploy an early warning forecasting system in earthquake-prone areas of Pakistan

The China-Pakistan Joint Research Center for Geosciences (CPJRC) and the National Disaster Management Institute (NDMI) have formalized an agreement aimed at improving disaster management, especially in the northern mountainous areas of Pakistan that are prone to earthquakes and landslides.

A cooperation agreement was signed between the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the National Disaster Management Authority of Pakistan (NDMA).

Under the agreement, advanced disaster risk simulation and early warning forecasting systems will be deployed to enhance disaster resilience in the northern mountainous areas of Pakistan.

Under the agreement, the two sides will strengthen the implementation of mountain disaster risk simulation and early warning forecasting systems.

Chinese media reported that new monitoring stations are expected to be established that will enhance risk assessment and data collection, which is crucial for effective and timely disaster response.

Academician Cui Ping, deputy executive director and chief scientist at CPJ, presented the mountain disaster risk simulation and early warning prediction system, expressing optimism about its successful implementation in Pakistan and the potential for effective future cooperation between the two sides.

He pointed out that signing the cooperation agreement would enhance further cooperation and exchange between the two parties.

The committee, established by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan under mutual agreement, focuses on scientific research and education in geosciences.

It is based at Quaid-e-Azam University and hosted by the Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment CAS.
