Updated: “An Earthquake is Coming” – 17 Black’s investigation has been completed, and Casa demands a copy

Attorney Jason Azzopardi said Tuesday that another major judicial investigation, involving three investigations into one, has been completed.

In a post on his Facebook page, Azzopardi said there was another investigation, which he initiated on behalf of MEP David Casa, the NGO Repubblica, and former National Party leader Simone Busuttil five years ago.

Casa had called for an investigation to investigate 17 Black, a company owned by murder suspect and businessman Jorgen Fenech, which was linked to the Panama Papers. Fenech is awaiting trial in connection with the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia.

In 2016, it was revealed that then Minister Konrad Mizzi and then Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister's Office Keith Schembri had opened companies in Panama. A third company known as Egrant was also opened and was allegedly owned by the family of Joseph Muscat, a claim for which no evidence was found in the judicial investigation.

Muscat sided with his right-hand men, keeping Schembri in office while removing the health portfolio from Mizzi, despite the latter retaining the title of minister.

The conclusion of this latest investigation comes on the heels of another judicial investigation into the three-hospital deal, which brought former Prime Minister Muscat, Mzi and two other former ministers to court on criminal charges in their names. Schembri is also charged in court.

In his column today, Azzopardi said the Labor government's top public servants and business leaders “should be charged with bribery and money laundering”.

“I told you all that an earthquake was coming,” Azzopardi said, reminding people of the phrase “Daphne was right,” which had recently gone viral after several individuals went on trial over the Vitals case, which journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia had first reported on. .

Caruana Galizia was the first to publicly mention the company's name 17 Black in a blog post on her website. She was assassinated in October 2017.

Azzopardi also posted the hashtags #Electrogas, #17Black and #PanamaPapers.

MEP David Casa was quick to respond on social media, saying the investigation was over. “I passed on a leaked document for which they wanted to send me to Orison,” Casa said.

In a later statement, Casa said it had been many years since “a courageous source handed me the FIU report that my bosses intended to bury.
