Dunne Highlights All-ECAC Selections for Clarkson Men's Hockey as Best Defensive Forward |

POTSDAM – For the third consecutive year, a male hockey player from Clarkson University has been named the best defensive forward of the ECAC while Josh Dunne has been selected for the highly regarded award this season.

A sophomore center, Dunne was also named a third conference star team earlier in the week. The OFallon, Missouri native was solid at both ends of the ice.

The 6-4, 210-pound striker was the Green and Golds' third goalscorer, recording 13 (8-5) of his 27 points (13-14) in the ECAC game. Five of his eight power play goals have reached conference opponents. He also scored a shorthanded marker in the 3-1 victory over Yale on January 31. Deputy captain, Dunne was first among Golden Knight attackers in blocked shots (37) and tied for second in the team with a plus-minus score (+ 9). He was voted ECAC Player of the Month for October.

Dunne led the Knights to the faceoff circle, winning 51.4% (307-290) of his draws and recording 37 blocked shots.

Centering the front row of Clarksons, Dunne helped lead the Greens and the Gold to their third consecutive campaign of 20 wins and a second place finish at 16-5-1 ECAC. The Knights finished 23-8-3 overall and finished ninth in the NCAA final pair classification.

Clarksons Nico Sturm won the conference best defensive attacker award as an intern (2018) and junior (2019). Buddy Wallace 98 and Nick Dodge 08 also won the award for Clarkson.

Dunne was one of five Clarkson male hockey players who helped lead the Golden Knights to their best regular season in over 20 years to be named the 2020 ECAC Hockey Stars.

Transfer of graduate Frank Marotte obtained the honors of the first team. Junior defender Connor McCarthy was named a member of the second all-star team, while graduate student Devin Brosseau, senior Haralds Egle and Dunne were selected for the third all-star team.

These five exhibition games helped Clarkson rank second in the 16-5-1 league, his most notable victories in ECAC hockey since winning 18 in 1998-1999. The Knights, who did not have a chance as the No. 2 playoff seed in the playoffs to see playoff action, finished with an overall record of 23-8-3 and ninth place in the NCAA Pairwise.

Marotte started the 22 games of CEAC and played the second most minutes (1,287: 13) in conference. Always good throughout the season, Marotte posted the second best percentage of saves (0.940) and goals against average (1.63) in ECAC action en route to a record the league 16-5-1. Marotte shut out Union opponents (2-0 on January 14 with 19 stops), Saint-Laurent (2-0 on February 8 with 21 stops) and Dartmouth (4-0 on February 22 with 27 stops) . The native of Longueuil, Quebec, has been named Goalkeeper of the Week ECAC three times (10/14, 11/25, 2/17) and has been chosen Goalkeeper of the conference of the month October.

Starting the 34 games in total, and playing all but 44 minutes in the Clarkson area, the eighth longest minute (2019: 49) in the country, Marotte ranked among the best goalkeepers in the country. Transfer of graduates has a save percentage of .938 (4th), an average of allocated goals of 1.78 (4th), a winning percentage of 0.721 (6th) on a record of 23-8-3 and finished tied for 8th in the shutouts (4). He posted 12 games with 30 or more saves, including a high of 38 saves in the 3-2 win at Quinnipiac, ranked 15th in Hamden, CT, on February 14. Marotte, who has played with Robert Morris for the previous three years, released a Career Record 73-52-11.

McCarthy has made a big impact offensively from the blue line as the ECAC top scorer among the defenders. The LaSalle, Que., Native scored eight of his nine goals against the league and finished with 14 conference points. McCarthy was tied for second in the country for defenseman power play counts with six. Nine of his 13 career goals came in power play. McCarthy has tallied 20 points in 34 games in total after recording 15 (4-11) in 40 games combined through his first and second year campaigns.

Egle was Clarksons' top scorer both in the ECAC game and overall. Right winger, he collected 21 points in 20 conference games with nine goals and 12 assists. Egle had a total of 32 points with 14 goals and 18 assists in 32 games. He scored six times in power play and connected for the winning goal in the league victories against Saint-Laurent (3-1 on December 7), Union (2-0 on January 4) and Dartmouth (4 -0, February 22). The native of Liepaja, Latvia, amassed 105 points (44-61) in 135 career games. Egle was named ECAC Hockey Player of the Month for December.

Captain of Clarksons, Brosseau collected 17 points in 20 games of the ECAC with four goals and 13 assists. Left winger Brosseau had a team high of 1.04 points per game in total. The Saint-Lambert, Que., Native scored eight goals and 21 assists at the top of the team for 29 points in 28 games. Brosseau has amassed 112 career points (40-72) in 144 games. Brosseau was named among the top five finalists for the 2020 Humanitarian Hockey Prize.
