Google Maps for iPhone will soon be getting its long-awaited driver assistance upgrade

Sticking to speed limits while driving using Google Maps may soon become a lot easier on the iPhone, as an on-screen speedometer is now available for some users.

The speedometer has been spotted by autoevolution and its readers in both the iOS and CarPlay versions of Google Maps, but unfortunately, it seems that no one has been able to get hold of any screenshots or photos of it yet.

This speedometer uses GPS data so is more accurate than the car's own speedometer, and it's also conveniently placed when checking upcoming directions.

While the feature is already available on some Android versions of Google Maps, its arrival on the iOS and CarPlay versions of Google Maps is welcome news for Apple users who currently can only see the speed limit for the current road while driving.

Speedometer in Maps app — Inconsistent experience

If you're not stuck with Google Maps but still want a speedometer in your navigation app right now, Waze offers both iPhone and Android users a way to get real-time speed information in their mapping app.

For most users, Apple Maps is just like Google Maps in that it only shows you speed limits, but thanks to iOS 18, things like topographical maps, preset and custom hiking routes, and more make Apple Maps even more useful when you're outside your car.

It's unfortunate that the speedometer in Google Maps has limited availability for now — one Reddit user claims that only one of the two iPhones he owns has a speedometer — but it would be a very welcome upgrade if the feature made it to all devices. It's unclear how long it will take for the feature to be fully rolled out, though.

At its Made by Google event on August 13, Google may take a break from announcing the rumored Pixel 9 series and Pixel Watch 3 to talk a bit about updates to Google Maps and other popular apps.

The car insurance industry hasn't remained untouched by these changes. On the internet, drivers can compare insurance prices and find out which sellers have the best offers. View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price. Using brokerage websites will allow drivers to get quotes from multiple insurers, thus making the comparison faster and easier.
