The Ambani Sangeet, as expected extravagant, turned into a fashion showdown with glittering lehengas and sharply cut sherwanis. As the evening wore on, I forgot that the event was a pre-wedding celebration and started seeing it more as a kind of Indian Met Gala. Here’s a look at the best-dressed celebrities who made sure the Ambani Sangeet was also a high-stakes fashion showdown.
Kiara Advani and Siddharth Malhotra
Bollywood's fashionable couple Kiara and Sid are the first on the list. The former looked stunning in a stunning pearl-embellished Tarun Tahilani blouse and skirt that truly looked like a modern take on a saree. The blouse came in the form of a corset with a peach-coloured cape around the shoulders and a mermaid-style skirt, also studded with pearls. Kiara never fails to impress when it comes to her sartorial choices, which is why I expected nothing less from her.
Siddharth's look, on the other hand, was a pleasant surprise. In a crowd of boring sherwanis, his outfit stood out. He wore a black sherwani with enough embroidery to occupy a karkhana for a month, along with a black kurta that peeked out lazily from his open sherwani.
Janhvi Kapoor
I have never been the biggest fan of Janhvi’s fashion sense – or a fan at all, actually. I have always found it a bit cheesy. But her sangeet look made me rethink my words. For the occasion, Janhvi opted for a lehenga-choli made by renowned designer Manish Malhotra. The skirt featured beautiful peacock feather motifs embroidered all over it, while her blouse faded into a barely-there look as it rose up. The look was completed with an elegant dupatta in hues of blue and green. If anyone outshone the bride, it was Janhvi. She later shared on Instagram that the look was inspired by her cherished memories in Jamnagar.
Mira Rajput Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor
Mira wore a stunning black and silver lehenga by Arpita Mehta, but it was her toned abs that stole the show. Shahid perfectly complemented his wife's look with a distinctive black and red ensemble, accentuated by a sleek Nehru jacket. Together, they set a new benchmark for elegance and coordinated fashion at the event.
Shloka Ambani
Saving the best for last, Shloka Ambani's sangeet look was the only one that deserved a double take. Channeling her inner Poo from K3GShe stunned in a peach and orange lehenga that looked like it came straight out of the My bracelets say Manish Malhotra dug into the archives and came up with a stunning rendition of the original with a cropped blouse featuring a jewelled asymmetric neckline, a backless design, embroidery and butterfly-embellished tassels on the hem.
