Russia appears to be giving special treatment to Prime Minister Narendra Modi soon after he landed in Moscow on Monday, July 8. Upon arrival at Vnukovo-II airport, Prime Minister Modi was received by Russian First Deputy Prime Minister (1st DPM) Denis Manturov, who is a senior to the Deputy Prime Minister who hosted Chinese President Xi Jinping during his visit to Russia.
In a rare move, Manturov also accompanied Prime Minister Modi from the airport to the hotel in the same car.
Prime Minister Modi is on his first trip to Russia since the start of the invasion of Ukraine.

Manturov, who served as Russia's industry minister, was promoted by President Vladimir Putin in May this year to the post of deputy prime minister with responsibility for overseeing the defense sector.
Prime Minister Modi will be in Moscow for two days before leaving for Austria.
Upon his arrival in Moscow, Prime Minister Modi was greeted enthusiastically shortly after his arrival in Moscow.
During his visit, Prime Minister Modi will co-chair the 22nd annual India-Russia summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He will also interact with members of the Indian community in Moscow.

Moments after landing in Moscow, Prime Minister Modi posted pictures from the airport where he is seen being greeted by Manturov and given a guard of honour.

Russia and Modi: first bilateral trip abroad since his third term
Prime Minister Modi's decision to choose Russia for his first bilateral foreign trip in his third term speaks volumes about the importance he attaches to strengthening diplomatic relations with the country.
The visit also shows that the Indian prime minister has chosen to maintain a long-standing friendship with Russia while seeking closer security ties with the West.
Prime Minister Modi last visited Russia in 2019, to attend an economic summit in the Russian city of Vladivostok. He hosted Putin in Delhi in 2021, weeks before Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
