Conservative Party leadership contender wants Boris Johnson back
One of the favourites to replace Rishi Sunak as Conservative Party leader wants Boris Johnson to return to the political front lines to help the Tories rebuild.
However, in an interview with GB News, Robert Jenrick ruled out any cooperation with Reform UK leader Nigel Farage in the new Parliament.
Johnson, who won an 80-seat majority for the Conservatives in the 2019 election, is considered “one of our most brilliant Conservatives”.
He continued: “I said during the campaign that he had to come back and he did, albeit once at the very last minute. I would be very happy to see Boris come back actively involved and therefore in the party.”
“I would be delighted to see him in Parliament. This is a time when all the strongest players need to be on the pitch.
“The Conservative Party needs to mobilise, rebuild our party, and if Boris wants to be part of that, I'd be delighted.”
Robert Jenrick has ruled out any cooperation with the leader of the British Reform Party, Nigel Farage, in the new Parliament.

Addressing Farage, Jenrick told political editor Christopher Hope: “I respect Nigel, he and I share a number of things in common. We both obviously believe in strong boundaries.”
“But no, I don't think Nigel can or should be in the Conservative Party.
“He said he didn't want to join the party, that he wanted to replace the Conservative Party and that as long as that was his view there could be no role for him within the party.
“But I will work with anyone who shares my determination to secure our borders and hold the open borders Labour Party to account for everything it does.” Jenrick is expected to run for party leader alongside rivals Tom Tugendhat, Kemi Badenoch, Suella Braverman and Priti Patel.
He declined to say whether he would run when asked directly: “It's a selfish argument to have today. What interests me are ideas and principles, not individuals and personalities.”
Elsewhere, Jenrick blamed his party's catastrophic election defeat on its failure to deliver on voters' expectations by cutting taxes, delivering a strong NHS and a secure border.
He said he hoped to target reform voters who had turned their backs on the Conservative Party.
He said: “We lost two-thirds of the constituencies on Thursday. The margin of defeat was less than the Reform vote. So my task now is how do we get these people back home.”
The former Conservative declined to say when asked directly whether he would run for Conservative leader.

“I want all Conservatives in small constituencies, whether in the north of England, in the Midlands, where I represent, or frankly anywhere in this country, to feel that the Conservative Party is their natural home.
“That's what we need to put in place now in the weeks and months ahead as we begin this process of rebuilding our party.”
On illegal immigration, Jenrick said “migration season” was now open for migrants wanting to come to the UK from northern France in small boats.
