Vicky Kaushal was ridiculed after being cast in lead role in Masaan, says casting director Mukesh Chhabra: Kisko hero le liya | Bollywood News

Actor Vicky Kaushal's acting prowess remains unquestionable with his performance in director Meghna Gulzar's biographical war drama Sam Bahadur reinforcing his status as one of the most talented actors in Bollywood.

However, casting director and filmmaker Mukesh Chhabra recently said that Kaushal's journey so far has been far from easy, highlighting the hard work he has put in to reach his current position. Chhabra also recalled that many initially ridiculed him for casting Kaushal in the lead role in director Neeraj Ghaywan's film Masan (2015). “He was a hard worker right from the start as an assistant director. He was very dedicated. Be it Raman Raghav 2.0, Masaan or Sanju, I personally auditioned him for these films and hence I got to see first-hand the amount of hard work he puts in. He worked tirelessly,” recalled Chhabra in a conversation with pink villa.

Chhabra also mentioned that many industry insiders were initially skeptical when Kaushal was cast in the lead role in Masan and added that some even ridiculed the decision.Hey my friend, who did you choose for the role of the hero? (Hey, why did you choose a guy like him to play the role of a hero?),” he said. “You can’t say such things with certainty about anyone. With his charm and hard work, he eventually proved everyone wrong. His talent, honesty and sincerity also played a role. But the hard work he put in… Not just Vicky, but people like Rajkummar Rao and Ayushmann Khurrana.”

Kaushal started his career as an assistant to director Anurag Kashyap in the two-part epic crime film The Gangs of Wasseypur (2012) before making his acting debut in the comedy film Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khuranaco-produced by his mentor Kashyap. His first major recognition came from his performance in MasanKaushal's career breakthrough came with Kashyap Raman Raghav 2.0 (2016), where he played a grey-haired cop. Kaushal is currently gearing up for the release of the comedy film Bad newsin which he shares the screen with Triptii Dimri and Ammy Virk. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on July 19.
