“I chose the wrong thing to do in life”

John Corbett recently appeared on the The “Fly on the Wall” podcast (via Weekly Entertainment) and expressed regret for limiting his Hollywood career to acting. Corbett's acting career spans hit TV series such as “Northern Exposure” and “Sex and the City” and films such as the “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” franchise. However, all the money he made as an actor didn't stop him from feeling like he missed out on other creative roles in Hollywood.

“Listen, I'm in the fourth quarter of the football game now, in life and in show business. That's just a fact,” Corbett said. “So I can reveal now that I chose the wrong thing to do with my life.”

“Have you ever sat in a doctor’s office waiting room for an hour and thought, ‘What the hell?’” Corbett added of his career regrets. “For me, that’s how you make a movie, because I’m not part of any of the creative process.”

Corbett cited Emma Stone's career as one that would have allowed him to have a more fulfilling Hollywood career, as she is not only an actress, but also a producer and creative collaborator on recent film projects such as “Poor Things” and “Kindness,” both directed by Yorgos Lanthimos. Corbett regrets never having had that kind of experience in Hollywood.

“I’ve made a lot of money. I live in a nice house. People come up to me in every restaurant I go to. I’m a friend to the world,” Corbett said. “But as far as a fulfilling creative professional life, I haven’t written a single sentence. I haven’t written a single joke that’s made people laugh. So it hasn’t been fulfilling in that respect.”
