Jokowi's move to Nusantara office awaits infrastructure readiness
Jakarta (ANTARA) –
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is waiting for the completion of supporting infrastructure before moving to his office in Nusantara Capital City (IKN) in East Kalimantan.
The office was originally scheduled to be ready by July 2024.
“The relocation depends on the availability of electricity, water and the readiness of offices,” Jokowi said while dispatching humanitarian aid for Papua New Guinea and Afghanistan from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in Jakarta on Monday.
Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Minister Basuki Hadimuljono had previously briefed Jokowi on the readiness of IKN's infrastructure, such as water, electricity and the president's office.
Based on the report, Jokowi concluded that the infrastructure is not yet ready for use.
On a previous occasion, he had said he was optimistic that work at IKN would start in July, once the raw water supply was available.
According to him, the water supply for IKN will come from the recently opened Sepaku Semoi Dam in North Penajam Paser, East Kalimantan.
“We just have to wait for the pump to raise the water and then distribute it to IKN buildings and houses,” Jokowi said in early June.
In this context, the head of the presidential secretariat, Heru Budi Hartono, said that the relocation of Jokowi's office to IKN is still waiting for the establishment of basic infrastructure in the area.
“We will see the development of existing infrastructure,” he said in June.
Some infrastructure is still being prepared, including a drinking water supply and an airport in North Penajam Paser.
Despite the airport construction being expected to be completed next August, Hartono stressed the need for additional checks and obtaining the airport operating permit.
