Famous Scottish orthopedic surgeon Ian Jackson dies in America at age 85 Scotland
A Scottish plastic surgeon, who became world-famous for his efforts to rebuild the face of a damaged Peruvian boy, died at the age of 85.
Professor Ian Jackson from Glasgow was considered a giant in the world of craniofacial surgery.
In the late 1970s, a groundbreaking operation on a boy abandoned as a baby in the Amazon jungle was globally recognized for having no holes in the nose, upper jaw, or center of the face.
The boy, David, was rescued by a Swiss charity worker and eventually flown to Glasgow, where Jackson restored his facial features.
The Jackson family eventually adopted a boy and his wife, Marjorie.
