Viking Hockey Named Sixth/Seventh in CCHA Preseason Coaches and Media Polls
SIOUX FALLS, SD Augustana men's hockey is projected to finish sixth in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) preseason poll, as voted on by the league's coaches and announced by the CCHA Thursday. AU was also projected to finish seventh in the media poll. This is the first preseason poll in Augustana hockey history.
Augustana's hockey program became a full member for the 2024-25 season following a vote by the CCHA Board of Directors in mid-July. The change brought the CCHA to nine teams a year early, as the Vikings were scheduled to join as a full member in the 2025-26 season.
Augustana finished the 2023-24 season with a 12-18-4 record and finished CCHA play with 1.63 points per game, which would have tied for third place in the CCHA.
Head coach Garrett Raboin announced the addition of nine Vikings for the 2024-25 season for its second-ever recruiting class. Augustana will feature 27 Vikings for just the second season in program history. The incoming class includes three defensemen, five forwards and one goalie. Eight of the incoming Vikings hail from Minnesota and will see one cross the pond from Slovenia.
Augustana opens the 2024-25 season with an exhibition game against North Dakota on Saturday, Oct. 5 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The Vikings open the regular season the following weekend at Midco Arena against Long Island. The CCHA series opens Nov. 2-3 in St. Paul, Minn., against St. Thomas.
