Imran Khan supports Justice Mansoor Ali Shah's stance on Practice Procedure Committee

Former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder chairman Imran Khan has endorsed Justice Mansoor Ali Shah's stand on the practice procedure order, expressing his support for the judge's stand.

Speaking to the media from Adiala Jail, Imran endorsed Justice Mansoor's views on judicial reforms, especially regarding the Practice and Procedure Act.

Imran also criticised the recent decisions of the Supreme Court, saying they reveal a conflict of interest within the judiciary.

He claimed that Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa had a hidden agenda and accused him of being part of the so-called 'London Plan', saying Isa's actions were politically motivated.

The PTI chief also highlighted the exclusion of some judges, including Ejaz ul Ahsan and Mazahir Naqvi, from key roles in the judiciary, saying it was part of a broader effort to undermine his party.

Imran said that all legal petitions filed by the PTI have been ignored and the actions of the judiciary reveal clear bias.

The former prime minister also reiterated his frustration at the lack of media coverage of military appointments, noting that in other countries such news would not make headlines.

He argued that Pakistan has effectively become a “police state” under harsher rule than past military dictatorships.

The PTI chief announced on Thursday his intention to hold protests against the court actions, followed by a party-organised rally in Rawalpindi on Saturday, which would take place with or without official permission.

PTI challenges Practices and Procedures Ordinance in Sindh High Court

The PTI has filed a petition in the Sindh High Court, challenging the recently introduced Practices and Procedures Ordinance, which it claims violates a Supreme Court ruling.

The petition argues that the order violates constitutional principles and seeks its immediate suspension pending judicial review.

In its petition, the PTI said the order, which deals with judicial practices, contradicts a decision of a Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa.

According to the petition, the Supreme Court had earlier ruled that an ordinance could be issued only in times of emergency. The PTI further argued that the ordinance could not be issued immediately after a parliamentary session, which it said was against constitutional guidelines.

The petition also alleges that the government is using the ordinance to involve judges in political matters, calling the move unconstitutional.

The PTI has asked the court to set aside the order and stay its implementation until a final decision is taken.

After filing the petition, PTI leader Haleem Adil Sheikh addressed the media and said, “We are here today to challenge the proposed amendment.

The government is trying to undermine the independence of the judiciary. We filed a similar petition against the Practice and Procedure Act in 2023, and we supported the judiciary in 2007. This time is no different.

The PTI's legal challenge comes amid growing concerns over the judiciary's involvement in political matters and the government's use of ordinances.

The party pledged to continue its fight to preserve the independence of the judiciary.
