PM Modi's Pune visit cancelled due to heavy rains | Pune News
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Pune on Thursday was cancelled due to heavy rains in the city. Sources in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) confirmed the incident and cited heavy rains forecast for the city as the reason.
Prime Minister Modi was scheduled to inaugurate a new metro line in Pune and other development works in the city. With Maharashtra going to polls soon, the BJP was also expected to make its voice heard on the occasion.
As Pune and its surrounding areas were lashed by heavy rains since Wednesday, Traffic was disrupted and the mock drill for Modi's visit led to the road being closed.
Pune reported over 130 mm of rainfall on Wednesday and more showers are expected on Thursday as well, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Pune district collector Suhas Diwase on Wednesday night ordered all schools to remain closed on Thursday due to heavy rain warnings.
