Field Hockey will host No. 14 Liberty in BIG EAST on Friday at Lennon Family Field

PROVIDENCE, RI The Providence College hockey team will host No. 14 Liberty in a BIG EAST Conference game on Friday, September 27 at 3 p.m. The game will be played at Lennon Family Field in Providence, RI and streamed live on FloSports. The Friars close out the weekend against New Hampshire on Sunday, September 29 at 2:00 PM in Durham, NH

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE (5-3, 1-0 BIG EAST):

The Friars enter the weekend with a 5-3 overall record, including a 1-0 mark in BIG EAST play. Two of the program's three losses this season were against nationally ranked opponents: No. 12 Michigan (8-1) and No. 17 Boston College (3-1).
Bo Martina leads the Friars in scoring with 11 points on three goals and a team-best five assists. She has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll each of the last two weeks. She registered the game-winning goal and one assist in the Friars' BIG EAST opening win against Quinnipiac and added the first multi-assist game of her career in a 4-3 (2OT, SO) win over Holy Cross.
You have Pennisi is second in scoring with nine points from four goals and one assist. Last week she was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career. She anchored a Friars defense that allowed just five shots in a BIG EAST win over Quinnipiac and scored three total goals in a 2-0 week overall.
Graduate student Ally DeCoste is third on the team in scoring (eight points) and tied with Pennisi for the team lead in goals scored (four).
Florencia Talaricowho was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team in August, has two assists to his name this season. Last year, Talarico was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Year and made the All-BIG EAST Second Team.
Eight different players have scored at least one goal in eight games for Providence and nine players have recorded at least one assist.
Graduate student Asia Porter played 498 minutes in the cage this season and posted a 2.29 goals against average and a .568 save percentage. She recorded two shut-out wins in eight games, coming on September 6 vs. Stonehill (3-0) and September 20 vs. Quinnipiac (2-0).
This season, the Friars have allowed 20 goals. Eleven of those 20 goals were scored in Providence's two games against nationally ranked teams.
Providence has outscored its opponents 88-70. The Friars have put 59 of their 88 shots on target, for a shot-on-target percentage of 0.670.
Providence has recorded 50 penalty corners this season and surrendered 45 to its opponents.

SCOUTING LIBERTY (4-3, 0-1 BIG EAST):

The Flames enter the weekend with a 4-3 overall record, including an 0-1 mark in the BIG EAST.
All three of Liberty's losses were against nationally ranked opponents.
Liberty's signature win so far this season was a 1-0 victory over No. 4 Duke. The Flames got the win despite leading 14-5 (5-3 SOG).
The Flames recently fell 3-2 to No. 19 Old Dominion in the BIG EAST opener on September 20.
The game between Liberty and ODU was tied, 2-2, until the Monarchs converted the winning goal with 2:17 left in regulation on a penalty corner.
Seven players on the roster have scored at least one goal this season, led by Martu Cian, who has eight points from four goals.
Tuti Dell Anna (three), Josefina Tomasi (three) and Lou Combrinck (two) join Cian as goalscorers.
Michaela Skinner played 435 minutes in the cage for Liberty and boasts a 1.93 goals against average and a .641 save percentage. Skinner has posted two shutout wins against William & Mary (5-0) and No. 4 Duke (1-0).

SCOUTING NEW HAMPSHIRE (2-6):

New Hampshire enters the weekend with a 2-6 overall record and will take on Bryant in the America East opener on September 27 before hosting the Friars.
The Wildcats have lost three games to opponents ranked in the national poll at the time of play, and a fourth loss came to Connecticut, which has made its way into the national poll (currently No. 11).
UNH suffered a 5-3 loss to No. 16 Boston College on September 22.
Kathelijne Knuttel leads the Wildcats in scoring with 13 points on six goals and one assist.
Tasmin Cookman, who earned NFHCA All-America Second-Team honors in 2023, is second on the team in scoring with seven points (2g/3a).
Cookman led the Friars in scoring during the 2023 season with 41 points on 18 goals and five assists.
The Wildcats have used two goalies through eight games this season.
Abby Johnson has played 340 minutes and owns both of UNH's wins. She has compiled a 3.00 goals average and a .595 save percentage. Kerigan Ross has played 140 minutes and has a 3.87 goals against average and a 0.591 save percentage.
