'Thud and rumble': A 3.2 magnitude earthquake shook the town of Gunning in New South Wales, north of Canberra.

A minor earthquake was recorded near the town of Gunning in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales on Thursday afternoon.

The 3.2-magnitude earthquake occurred at 12:42 p.m. at a depth of 10 kilometers below the surface, according to the Australian Geosciences Authority.

Nearly 57 “sensible reports” were sent to the government body.

Geoscience Australia maps show the epicenter was on the right of the Hume Highway, which connects travelers from Sydney to Melbourne.

One person on X described the quake as a “bump and rumble”, while another said they “didn't feel anything that tall”.

“Slightly bigger earthquake in Gunning today with a magnitude of 3.2,” one Gunning resident wrote on Facebook.

“I thought one of the construction workers had jumped from the roof onto the scaffolding when the kitchen shook violently.”

The same area witnessed another tremor last Friday, when a 2.9-magnitude earthquake was recorded west of Ulong at around 12:20 p.m.

This comes after a series of earthquakes that shook the Hunter Valley area near Newcastle over the past two months.

A 4.5-magnitude earthquake struck near Muswellbrook on September 7, knocking out power to thousands of homes.

“This is not how I expected to wake up this morning,” one woman said on social media at the time.

“Did everyone's room shake?” Someone else wrote.

“I swear I felt another earthquake,” the New South Wales resident said.

Before that, a 4.7-magnitude earthquake in late August caused damage to some buildings in the city, and SES volunteers were called in to help.
