Northern Cyprus denounces UK deployment of additional troops to island

Zorlu Tore, speaker of the Turkish Cypriot parliament, expressed his reaction on Saturday to the United Kingdom's decision to send 700 additional troops to its sovereign bases on the island. The UK says the deployment is part of efforts to evacuate its citizens from Lebanon.
“The UK is not only sending soldiers to Cyprus, but also warships, planes and submarines,” Tore told Anadolu Agency.
He highlighted that the United States and the United Kingdom have recently increased their military presence in Cyprus. Tore criticized these countries for providing political and military support to Israel rather than taking steps to end the violence in Gaza.
He noted that the Greek Cypriot administration also supports Israel's ongoing military actions in Gaza, saying that the Greek Cypriot side is trying to escalate tensions in the region with the help of the United Kingdom, the United States and some EU member states.
“The Greek side must also get its act together. It must stop allowing Western countries to participate in the massacres in Gaza,” he said.
Tore further argued that the UK's decision to send additional troops cannot be justified simply by the need to evacuate citizens from Lebanon. “This is clearly a reinforcement against the risk of spreading a potential war in the region,” he said.
He accused the UK, US and some EU countries of complicity in the violence in Gaza, saying: “Instead of stopping the attacks, they are supporting Israel.”
Recalling Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's recent speech to the United Nations General Assembly, Tore quoted Erdogan: “The world is bigger than five.” He pointed out that Erdogan advocates global unity to end what he described as genocide committed by Israel, suggesting that Western nations are failing to understand these sentiments due to the loss of moral integrity.
