Pak High Court in Lahore to hear petition over PTI protest rally

Lahore [Pakistan]September 28 (ANI): The High Court of Pakistan in Lahore on Saturday fixed a hearing against the Lahore District Commissioner for September 30 to examine contempt proceedings for refusing to allow a Tehreek-e-Insaf rally in Pakistan, despite court orders, ARY News reported. PTI's Akmal Khan has filed a petition, Justice Farooq Haider will hear the contempt proceedings against the Lahore District Commissioner for violating court orders, according to ARY News. The district commissioner refused to allow Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf to hold a rally at Minar-e-Pakistan before September 30. The PTI has sought permission to hold a rally at Minar-e-Pakistan on October 5, the birth date of PTI founder Imran Khan. The court order came after PTI vice-president Punjab requested the court to hear the matter. The Lahore High Court has ordered the district commissioner to take a decision on the application by September 30. The court's official counsel has been directed to inform the DC about the court order, according to ARY News. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is yet to get permission to hold a protest rally in Karachi on Sunday, ARY News reported.

The Karachi commissioner will take the decision after taking into account feedback from deputy commissioners and SSPs of Eastern and Southern districts on whether to let the protesters hold the rally or not. The party founded by Imran Khan had announced to hold a protest rally by Karachi Press Club at Mazar-e-Quaid on Sunday to force implementation of the Supreme Court order on reserved seats. The PTI had also sought permission from the commissioner for the protest rally, as reported by ARY News. Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, PTI city president Raja Azhar said the Supreme Court's decision had made it clear that the reserved seats belonged to the PTI. Ahead of another major protest called by the PTI today, Pakistan's Rawalpindi provincial government banned all public gatherings and stationed paramilitary forces, Dawn reported. (ANI)
