Men's tennis ends play at ITA regionals
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. Seniors Evan Erb And Will Kistler saw action in the main draws Saturday for the Washington and Lee men's tennis team at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships, while seniors James Kurani and sophomores Brit Buckingham took a total of five wins in B3 singles.
HIGHLIGHTS OF DAY 2:
Buckingham led all Generals players with four total wins on Saturday, including three in the B3 singles. Buckingham and Kurani paired up in the Doubles Consolation Round of 16 for a 6-3 victory over Muhlenberg's Owen Dyer and Matthew Miller. In singles, Buckingham won in the B3 Round of 16, Quarter-Finals and Semi-Finals, including an 8-7 (2) battle against Haverford's Owen Kilmer.
Kurani also made a run through the B3 bracket, winning two matches by a combined score of 16-2 before falling to Johns Hopkins' Brian Yi in the semifinals.
Erb and Kistler remained W&L's only main event appearance, but both were defeated in the Championship Doubles Round of 16, before Erb fell in the Championship Singles Round of 16.
Other Blue and White doubles victories on Saturday included seniors So Hirsberg and sophomores Hi Parker with a 6-3 victory in the consolation round of the 16 and freshman doubles championship Ryan Good and sophomores Sanjheev Rao in the B1 Doubles Round of 16. Parker added a singles victory in the B1 Round of 16, while Rao finished with a victory in the B2 Singles Consolation Quarterfinals.
NEXT:
The Generals will make their final court appearance this fall on Saturday, Oct. 12, when they travel to Virginia Wesleyan before heading into the winter.
