Men's tennis faces tough competition at Liberty Dual
The three-day, two-match hidden event pitted the Tribe against a trio of teams No. 4 Virginia, No. 36 Princeton and No. 56 Liberty who finished last in the national top 60. The Green and Gold totaled six singles victories and a trio of doubles victories at the event.
In doubles, sophomore Oliver Haag and freshmen Gur Trakhtenberg posted a 2-1 record in the first position. The Tribe tandem defeated Princeton's Ellis Short and Alan Kam 6-3 on Friday before outscoring Virginia's Ty Switzer and Keegan Rice 6-4 to wrap up the event on Sunday. The Hague and Trakhtenberg are 3-2 this year.
Senior Alexander Karman and sophomores Nikita Bortnichek gave W&M a second victory over the top three Princeton teams on Friday. The Tribe tandem defeated Matthew Bosancic and Evan Wen 6-4.
In singles, Bortnichek recorded the lone win over Princeton, beating Bosancic in three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 10-6, on Friday.
The Green and Gold recorded three singles victories against the host Flames on Saturday. Freshmen Raz Katz and junior Albert Hansen each posted three-set wins. Katz defeated Chase Robinson 6-4, 2-6, 6-4, while Hansen rallied for a 1-6, 7-6, 6-1 win over Trey Stinchcomb. Karman rounded out the Tribe singles wins on Saturday with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Liberty's Ernst Gouws.
On Sunday, Trakhtenberg earned his second win, beating Virginia's Ty Switzer 6-3, 7-6 (3). Senior Sean Joseph picked up his team-leading third singles win of the fall with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Virginia's Jack Griffin.
