Court rejects bail pleas after arrest of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi

A special central judge on Monday rejected the bail applications of incarcerated former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana 2.0 case.

The court has scheduled an indictment for October 2, Express News reported.

The hearing was held before Special Judge Central Shahrukh Arjmand at Adiala Prison, where the prosecution, represented by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) prosecutor Zulfiqar Abbas Naqvi, presented its case .

The prosecution claimed that Imran got a Bulgari set worth Rs 70 million for just Rs 2.9 million.

They further claimed that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) acquired the original price of the set through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The prosecution's case included details of the contents of the Bulgari ensemble, which allegedly included a necklace, earrings, bracelet and ring.

They alleged that Imran, during his tenure as prime minister, had undervalued the market price of the set to Rs 5.8 million and kept the state gift without depositing it in the Toshakhana.

In response, Imran Khan's lawyer, Advocate Salman Safdar, argued that the current case was similar to a previous case involving the same allegations and witnesses.

He argued that after the Supreme Court reinstated the NAB amendments, the case should be dismissed. However, the special judge ultimately rejected the bail applications after considering the arguments of both sides.

With the denial of bail, Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi will now prepare to face charges at the next hearing scheduled for October 2.
