Imran challenges government with call to protest against D-Chowk – Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The PTI has issued a fresh call for protests across the country for the independence of the judiciary, including a protest in Islamabad where all such gatherings are banned.

According to an announcement attributed to PTI founder Imran Khan, a protest will be held at D-Chowk in Islamabad on October 4.

The plan was announced a day after Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur threatened the federal government and other institutions of dire consequences if the action against PTI workers was not stopped.

On Monday, Mr. Gandapur again pledged to hold a protest at any location announced by the former prime minister.

Announces demonstration in Islamabad on October 4 despite ban on gatherings and rally at Minar-i-Pakistan the next day

As per the PTI founders' announcement, the party will hold protests in Mianwali, Faisalabad and Bahawalpur tomorrow (Wednesday).

A similar protest will be held at Minar-i-Pakistan in Lahore on October 5.

The PTI has called for protests in Islamabad despite a new law that imposes a blanket ban on public gatherings and meetings in the capital.

Under the Peaceful Assembly and Public Order Bill, 2024, each party wishing to hold a protest must appoint an event coordinator who will write to the district magistrate for permission to hold the rally at least seven days before the scheduled date of the event.

On receipt of the application, the district magistrate, before granting permission, will examine the law and order situation and obtain security clearance reports from the law enforcement agencies, the law states.

It also authorizes the federal government to designate a specific area of ​​the Islamabad Capital Territory as a red zone or high security zone, thereby prohibiting any type of gathering in that area.

After the party's latest rally in Sangjani area of ​​Islamabad, where leaders delivered fiery speeches, at least 11 PTI MLAs were arrested from various parts of Islamabad, including Parliament.

Some of the leaders were produced before an anti-terrorism court which handed over their detention to Sangjani police for eight days on remand.

Later, the Islamabad High Court quashed the remand and the lawmakers attended the National Assembly session after the President issued their production orders.

Imran supports Gandapur

According to the announcement, the PTI founder also conveyed the protest agenda to CM Gandapur.

Criticizing the current regime, Mr Khan said the government wanted to crush the PTI under what he called the London Plan. I was put in prison according to the same plan.

He said the PTI was still holding a peaceful protest, but the law itself was failing to protect his party. Our women are languishing in prison. A complaint was filed against an 80-year-old woman, but no one cares, Mr. Khan complained.

The PTI founder said that CM Gandapur marched towards Islamabad and rightly declared that revolution was imminent.

In an apparent reaction to the government's proposed constitutional package regarding Supreme Court judges, the PTI founder said: We will defend the judiciary and continue the fight for real freedom.

He added that his wife had also been held in prison for several months. They want to break me in prison. People should not be afraid of being imprisoned.
